New Works

Here is some of what I have been working on recently. I am experimenting with different mediums and mixing them and techniques, while still working to keep my own detailed style. The image with the two in it is from my printmaking-intaglio class. The one on the left is a layers of images. I did an etching on a copper plate of a woman with exemplified lines around her figure (Egon Schiele as inspiration). I cut the figure out of one of the proof print and put it over top of one of my colored monotypes. Its not what I usually do but I think the finished product has a nice effect. The one to the right of it is a self-portrait. It was an dry point plate with mixed media on top of the printed image. The still life is mixed media as is the one with the horse and man on a tight rope,On the Balance. The Blue Legs, is a piece I did in my figure drawing class. It was in the Student Art Show at East Central College.

This was created for my Sculpture class. We had to individually create an installation on campus. I wanted to create something that was temporal and used nature. The fall leaves seemed promising. I individually placed each leaf, with the chance of them blowing away at any time. It lasted a few hours, then as the day went on the only evidence was some leaves scattered around the sidewalk.

Grandfather Clock Face

A local craftsman asked me to create the face of the grandfather clock he made. He built the clock from a cherry log and even sawed the log himself, an amazing piece of art. I started on this face from scratch. I drew the circles with a compas and India Ink many times before I was satisfied. Then one by one very precisley drew in the roman numerals. A very time consuming and detailed project, but very rewarding in the end to see the finished product and the arts final home.

My horse art

Above is a graphite drawing I did for a client of ours. This horse was one we sold from our farm www.oakwoodfarmtb.com The Horse head to the right of it is a wax sculpture that was intended to be a bronze statue. A mold was built around it, the wax melted out and my mold broke, leaving my picture the only history I have of it. The inspiration for the sculpture came from the drawing to the right. This was a graphite sketch I did in my sketch book one morning. It is one of my favorite as it captures an energetic movement. I like to call it The Boss Horse. All of these I did last year fall 2008.

In the Begining

So I'm just getting started here and seeing how it all works. I'll be posting new artwork so please keep checking back to see my new creations. This image of Elvis was for my commerical illustration class. It is showing a new technique that starts out with a Conte pencil, then is layered with thin oil paint and the highlights are pulled out. There are three layers of color on this: yellow, orange, and red-violet. The final will be on a separate post. Enjoy.
